Some of my favorite childhood memories spending summer afternoons "fishing" with my dad. We used nets, instead of poles, because the object was to stand in thigh-deep water watching for a ripple of color. One flick of the wrist and up came a bright, wriggling fish. We'd study it for a moment before releasing it to its watery world. Aquacolor is a thank you to my dad for those golden days. My fish pin collection is not only made up of some of the fish we caught, but also of many that I find interesting. I painstakingly sculpt each sterling silver pin in wax, using anatomical drawings of actual fish. Color is added by immersing the piece in a patina bath until the metal begins to glow with emerging color. Finally, an antique finish is applied. Sizes range from 1 1/4" for the small trigger fish to 2 " for the squid. |
