Fauve While an art student a UC Berkeley, I developed a fascination with the art movement known as Fauvism. Fauve means "wild animal" in French. This group, that included Matisse, was met with a storm of outrage at their first public exhibition in 1905. The name was coined by an art critic, who labeled their work "primitive" and "an orgy of color." Despite the jeer, the work of the Fauves influenced a generation of artists, becoming the foundation for the birth of Modernism.

This is my tribute to the Fauves, artists who dared to buck tradition and have enriched us all with their amazing work.
